Texture of EdTech

On Technology

There are many approaches to Educational Technology (EdTech) in schools.  The roots of the word “technology” are useful here.  “Technology” has its roots in the Greek word tekne, which has many meanings:

  • to craft (as in our “technical”)
  • to weave (as in our “texture”)
  • to create knowledge
  • to create false knowledge
  • the textbooks that were written by false knowers

The notions of weaving and crafting are especially useful for us.  Using technology in schools is about layering or weaving together various tools to achieve some instructional end.  But, what determines that end?
